When we got our diagnosis we knew that we didn't want to have a typical funeral for Greyson. Funerals are such an old tradition. They are stuffy and rigid. Greyson deserves something more fun and fitting for a child. His third birthday would have been November 7th so we decided to throw him a Celebration of Life/Birthday party he deserves.

Anyone and everyone is invited. Come as you are, wear fun colors, dinosaurs if you have them, and come celebrate our son with us.

Date: Saturday November 5th

Time: 1pm-5pm

Location: Ore Dock Brewery (upstairs)

address is 114 Spring Street, Marquette, MI 49855. There is a large parking lot in front of the building and some parking on the street. Please note, it is a one way street! There is also additional parking on Main Street that has a wheelchair accessible ramp to get into the space.

We will have some light snacks and cake/cupcakes. The bar does have soda, beer, and seltzers for purchase.

We do have a block of rooms set aside at Holiday Inn Express and Suites for November 4th and 5th for $89.00 a night. If you need a room, please call 906-225-1300 and ask for the block under Greyson's Celebration of Life. If we need more hotel rooms, please let me know and I can help arrange more! While we know there will be tears, we want this to celebrate Greyson. We will have a ton of photos, birthday decorations. a video montage and presentation, and we just want you to be there to celebrate our baby boy.

If you have any questions or if you need any help with booking the hotel, please feel free to use the "contact us" page. If you are traveling from out of town and would like some ideas of things to do in Marquette- we can make a list for you.

Places to Stay:

Besides the block of rooms we have set aside there are other places to stay in Marquette.

  1. The Landmark Inn: I used to work here back in college. It's a historic hotel located downtown Marquette and only a few blocks from the Ore Dock. It's a boutique type hotel with every single room decorated differently. There are two restaurants located right in the lobby. website: https://www.thelandmarkinn.com/

  2. The Hampton Inn: This is a newer hotel that is RIGHT on Lake Superior. I have only been inside of the lobby but I heard it's beautiful. This hotel is right down the road from the Ore Dock Brewery too. website: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/mqtwfhx-hampton-marquette-waterfront/

  3. The Holiday Inn: This is where we had our wedding! They just did a remodel shortly before our wedding and it was stunning. They have a pool and a pretty massive hot tub. website: https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/marquette/mqtmi/hoteldetail

  4. Of course- Airbnb or VRBOs are another great option too! Just search for Marquette Michigan. The Ore Dock is on Spring Street. There are other hotels too if you are interested in something else.

Places to Eat:

Depending what mood you are in- there are a lot of great local restaurants!

  1. Vangos - one of my favorites and MUST hits when I go home. They are a small Greek restaurant on 3rd street. They are known for their waffle fries and ranch! I love the cajun chicken pita and Adam really likes their gyros or cudaghi. Website: http://www.vangospizza.com/index.htm

  2. Border Grill - a "fast-casual" restaurant serving fresh Mexican food. I love their gourmet chicken burrito and Adam likes their barbacoa. They have the best border salsa and pico. Website: https://bordergrill.net/marquette-location/

  3. Togos- Sub sandwiches made on the best bread ever. website: https://togostogo.com/

  4. Iron Bay: Located across from Lower Harbor and the lake, they are a small restaurant but it's delicious. I'm not a big seafood fan but I LOVE their whitefish tots. They have a Michigan cherry bourbon BBQ sauce that is my go-to. Website: https://ironbaymqt.com/

  5. Main Street Pizza- the local pizza place that is a classic.

  6. If you are looking for something fancier- Elizabeth's Chophouse, Casa Calabria, Villa Carpi. or Lagniappe come to mind :)

Things To Do:

Depending how long you will be staying and what the weather looks like..

Hiking: Sugarloaf Mountain

For Kids: Children's Museum (it's actually right down a block from the brewery)

Beer: Ore Dock (where the party is) or Blackrocks Brewery on 3rd.

Tourist Shopping: Right on Washington Street they have really cute little shops

If you are able- drive our walk around Presque Isle (or the Island) it's our favorite place back home.

If you need any other ideas- please reach out.

We are looking forward to seeing you and getting much needed hugs.

xoxo,

Kim
